The Bank of Mozambique today inaugurated its museum, which will serve to "preserve and enhance institutional memory".
The inauguration of the Banco de Moçambique Museum coincided with the celebration of the institution's forty-eighth anniversary.
According to the governor of the central bank, the infrastructure located in the capital involved research, information gathering and an exchange of experience with national and international entities, which culminated in the production of documents, image collection and objects from the bank's historical activities.
During the inauguration ceremony, Rogério Zandamela said that, "in addition to all the different types of coins that have been used in Mozambique since colonial times, the museum's collection includes paintings by various artists, including some works by the historic Mozambican artist Malangatana".
"The museum comprises five thematic areas, which provide a historical, technical-scientific and artistic overview of our country," said Rogério Zandamela.
