The Mozambican Medical Association announced on Thursday (22) that it was suspending the strike it had been holding since the beginning of the month, in an alleged response to the popular call for tranquillity during the festive season.

The class says it is responding to popular appeal to ensure a smooth festive season in case it needs service.

The announcement was made by the Association's president, Milton Tatie, at a press conference at the end of a meeting of the organization's members.

"At this meeting, we decided to respond to two appeals made - the first by the population and the other by the President of the Republic - so that our people can spend the holidays well, in the best possible way and benefiting from adequate medical care," said Tatie, quoted by VOA.

According to Tatie, the suspension takes effect today, Friday (23), four days before the strike was initially scheduled to end, and will last for one month.

"Our demands have not yet been met and our grievances still stand, so we are only suspending for 30 days, after which we will take a new position," said Tatie.
