Terrorism Crimes: Magistrates propose amending criminal law

Crimes de terrorismo: Magistrados propõem alteração da Lei Penal

Judicial magistrates advocate amending the Penal Law to accommodate situations not provided for in the current one, taking into account the emergence of new crimes, such as those linked to terrorism, which is currently affecting the province of Cabo Delgado.

Speaking on behalf of the judicial magistrates at the Conference and Annual Meeting of the Forum of Presidents of the Supreme Courts of the SADC Region, which ended last week, Luís Mondlane, judge-advisor of the Supreme Court, was quoted by "Notícias" as saying that the government should approve a special regime to ensure that information gathered in the theater of operations by the military and handed over to the judicial authorities can be used as evidence in cases of trial of individuals linked, for example, to terrorist actions.

The magistrate's appeal is extended to all member states of the Southern African Development Community (SADC).
