Data from the Civil Aviation Institute of Mozambique (IACM), indicate that in the second quarter of this year, 397,382 passengers passed through the national airports, corresponding to 104,207 more passengers, compared to the second quarter of 2021 and an increase of 73% compared to the first quarter of 2022.
When it comes to cargo handled the scenario changes. According to the institution, the period under review, the Authority recorded a movement of 3179 tons of cargo, corresponding to 27.6 tons less than the second quarter of 2021 and increase by 2% compared to the first quarter of 2022.
Mail movement also saw a decrease in the second quarter of 2022. Overall the IACM counted 134.9 tons of cargo, corresponding to 11.5 tons less than the second quarter of 2021, but an increase by 2% compared to the first quarter of 2022.
Passengers and cargo were carried by a growing number of aircraft.
The Authority recorded a movement of 13,592 aircraft in the second quarter of the current year, an increase of 3700 aircraft compared to the second quarter of 2021 and an increase by 17% compared to the first quarter of 2022.
IACM reports that the second quarter of 2022 was also characterized by the approval of Decree No. 17/2022 of May 5 that restructures the national airports to meet the demand of air traffic in Mozambique as well as structure the management of the national airspace.
