Governo defende adopção de uma visão estratégica na exploração dos hidrocarbonetos

The Minister of Mineral Resources and Energy, Carlos Zacarias, defended on Thursday, in Bilene, Gaza province, the need to adopt a strategic vision that ensures that the exploitation of hydrocarbons, such as gas and oil, benefits the country, while supplying the regional and global markets.

The governor stated that this is the understanding of the "Executive", which sees hydrocarbons as an indispensable vector for the future of the country.

Speaking at the opening of the Coordinating Council of the Ministry of Mineral Resources and Energy (MIREME), Carlos Zacarias also stated that this year should be marked by the beginning of the production and export of Liquefied Natural Gas, through the Coral Sul FLNG Project.

"There is also to note the closing of the sixth tender for new hydrocarbon exploration areas, which adds a greater sense of responsibility and necessary reflection on the energy transition process," he said.

In relation to the mines, Zacarias, quoted by the newspaper Notícias, pointed out that the promotion of cooperatives in the field of artisanal and small-scale mining, the improvement of the fight against illegal mining and mineral smuggling should deserve increasingly effective answers and solutions so that we can put the mineral resources to the benefit of Mozambicans.

"We also note with satisfaction the increase in gold production to 800 kilograms last year, a maximum level since national independence, and the tendency to exceed the targets set for the current year, as a result of the screening work that has been done with the producers, buyers and sellers of this mineral," he stressed.

Carlos Zacarias said, in the hydrocarbon exploration Government defends the adoption of a strategic vision on the other hand, that there is still much to do in the sector so that "more revenues from the exploration of gems enter the state coffers," he noted.

The minister also recalled, in his intervention, that the country has the challenge of ensuring universal access to energy for all by 2030, through the electrification of administrative posts, with recourse to the national electricity grid and isolated systems, and the increase in generation capacity, as well as the development of new transport and distribution projects.

The VII Coordinating Council of the Ministry of Mineral Resources and Energy, which ended this Friday in the municipal town of Praia do Bilene, in Gaza, takes place under the theme "For a Sustainable Exploration of Mineral and Energy Resources Towards Industrialization in the Context of the Country's Energy Transition".
