WB Governor says Metical's robustness depends on increasing production

Governador do BM diz que robustez do Metical passa pelo aumento da produção

The governor of the Bank of Mozambique (BM), Rogério Zandamela says that the robustness of the national currency can only be achieved if there is an increase in production and productivity levels, associated with an improvement in the quality of national products and services.

Zandamela, speaking last Thursday, at the inauguration of the Metical Square, in the city of Pemba, emphasized that the observance of these assumptions is important to boost the levels of financial inclusion and creation of conditions for sustainable and inclusive economic growth.

The Pemba Metical Square is an infrastructure that, according to the Central Bank Governor, can contribute to the dynamization of the local economy, through tourism.

"The square, which occupies an area of 1,500 square meters, is an emblematic place of inestimable architectural value, covered with a high symbolic historical-cultural and tourist value," he said.

He further explained that "the act we have just witnessed results from a memorandum of understanding concluded between the Bank and the Pemba City Council in September 2021."
