CPLP citizens no longer need to exchange driving licenses in Portugal

Citizens of the Community of Portuguese Language Countries (CPLP) will be able to drive in Portugal without having to exchange their driver's licenses from their countries of origin.

According to the newspaper Económico, the measure was approved by the Portuguese government this Thursday, June 15th, in the Council of Ministers.

The Executive thus approved the "decree-law amending the Highway Code so as to enable, in certain cases, the driving of motor vehicles by holders of driving licenses issued by member states of the Community of Portuguese Language Countries (CPLP) and the Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development (OECD), dispensing with the exchange of driving licenses, on an equal basis with holders of driving licenses issued by member states of the European Union.

The CPLP is made up of nine member states: Angola, Brazil, Cape Verde, Guinea-Bissau, Equatorial Guinea, Portugal, Mozambique, São Tomé and Príncipe, and East Timor.
