The National Institute of Statistics (INE) recommends the creation of a national fund to guarantee the financial sustainability of the main activities of statistical production in Mozambique.
In a press release, Statistics Portugal also recommends the effective compliance with the deadlines set for the dissemination of the results of the major censuses, to ensure that all the information reaches users on time.
In the communiqué that presents the main recommendations of the XXIV enlarged Consultative Council of INE, a two-day event that took place recently in the administrative post of Ponta D'Ouro, Maputo province, the participants also defended the establishment of coordinated mechanisms in the mobilization of resources for the fund.
At the opening ceremony, the Secretary of State in Maputo province, Vitória Diogo, made a reference about the importance of the results of the 2022 Household Budget Survey (HBS). "It is important for the dissemination of official economic, social and demographic information," she said.
At the event, those present appreciated the annual report of activities and financial execution of the National Statistical System (SEN) for the year 2021, the Annual Plan of Activities and Budget for 2022, the proposal of the Policy of Dissemination and access to microdata, including the trilateral project UK-Brazil-Africa, aimed at producing statistics in "Real Time", with focus on taking advantage of the demographic dividend of the African continent.
In addition to the Master Plan for Development of Agricultural Statistics, Strategy for Mobilization, Negotiation, Planning and Management of the Implementation of Cooperation Projects the Council also considered the Global Strategy for the Improvement of Agricultural and Rural Statistics.
Relevant information was also presented on the major statistical operations underway or in preparation, namely the Household Budget Survey (HBS), preparations for the Demographic and Health Survey.
The state of play on the final report of the Informal Sector Survey, the Impact Survey on Access to Sustainable Energy, as well as some statistical operations of the Ministry of Science, Technology, and Higher Education, are other matters that were the subject of debate.
