Filipe Nyusi meets with President of the European Council

The President of the Republic, who has been visiting the European Union since Monday, met on Tuesday at the headquarters of that organization, in Brussels, with several dignitaries of that continental organization.

These are separate meetings with the president of the European Council, Charles Michel, the executive vice president of the European Commission, Frans Timmermans, and the commissioner for crisis management, Janez Lenarčič.

The meeting with the President of the European Council, which was scheduled to last fifteen minutes, was extended to just over an hour.

Terrorism in Cabo Delgado province, the reconstruction of the districts affected by this phenomenon, and the natural calamities that cyclically afflict our country, resulting from climate change, were the issues addressed in the meetings.

At Monday's meeting, the EU Commissioner for International Partnerships, Jutta Urpilainen, gave assurances that the European Union will continue to provide financial support to Mozambique to cope with the extreme events that annually strike the country, leaving a trail of destruction.

Another guarantee is financial aid for the reconstruction of the districts that were victims of terrorist actions, once peace is restored, thanks to the offensives of the defense and security forces and their allies from Rwanda and SADC.

The vice-minister of Foreign Affairs and Cooperation, Manuel Gonçalves, said that the meetings served to strengthen the relations of friendship and cooperation between Mozambique and the European Union, having concluded that they are at the highest level and are excellent.

Manuel Gonçalves explained that there was an exchange of information about the situation in Mozambique, with particular emphasis on the issue of coca-D19, and the President of the Republic thanked the European Union for its support in this area.

According to the deputy minister of Foreign Affairs and Cooperation, the European Union has pledged to continue to support Mozambique in humanitarian assistance to people affected by natural disasters.

Filipe Nyusi's visit is part of the strengthening of political-diplomatic and economic-commercial relations between Mozambique and the European Union.
