The Chinese company WIH announced this Thursday in Maputo that it will set up four more factories in Mozambique, budgeted at more than US$800 million.
The agreement signed between the company's representatives and the Ministry of Industry and Trade, falls under the scope of the Mozambique National Industrialization Program (PRONAI).
"This group intends to give continuity to its investments in Mozambique, paying attention also to the generation of new jobs in particular for young people and women. Above all, it intends to [take] the industries where the raw material is located" said Carlos Mesquita.
The Minister of Industry and Commerce revealed that the company's technicians have already evaluated the conditions to implant the factories in Tete and Nampula.
WIH - majority shareholder of Mozambique Dugongo Cimentos, SA - plans to build another cement and clinker factory, with capacity to produce about five thousand tons of integrated clinker; a thermal power generation industry, containing two generators of 50 megawatts each; a vineyard with capacity to produce 600 tons of float glass per year; and a handcrafted glass factory.
WIH representative Zhang Jimin said he expects the same support he got in 2021 during the establishment of the factory in Matutuine district, Maputo province.
The Matutuine plant cost WIH about $330 million, and has an estimated production of 1800 tons of cement per year.
At the time Carlos Mesquita pointed out that this is "an environmentally friendly factory, with practically zero pollution levels. It is equipped with a system for collecting and treating dust, which allows it to be reused in the production process.
The Matutuine plant contemplates using coal to power the power plant, which will supply electricity to the plant.
"It's a product that Mozambique has. Now they are importing it from South Africa for the experimental phase. Meanwhile, démarches are underway, with a view to acquiring the coal produced in Moatize, in Tete province," said the Minister of Industry and Trade, 2020.
