Electricidade de Moçambique (EDM) loses more than 50 million meticais due to the vandalization of High Voltage Poles (PTs), estimated the company's Administrator for the Distribution, Commercial and IT Area.
“With that amount of money we could have given many people more energy. It's a step backwards when PTs are vandalized, cables are stolen and we have to replace them,” said Francisco Inroga, assuming that company employees may be associated with schemes to steal and vandalize electricity cables.
He was speaking yesterday on the sidelines of the inauguration of an electricity network budgeted at 93 million meticais, in the administrative post of Naburi, in the district of Pebane, Zambezia province.
On the other hand, Inroga said that the mobilization of 474 million dollars for the electrification of other districts is progressing well, in order to ensure that by 2030 the entire province is lit up.
Six administrative posts have yet to be electrified, four of which - Muabama and Taciana, in the Lugela district; Mongue, in Milange; and Campo, in Mopeia - within the national network, and two others - Chire and Mezazi, in Morrubala - in the isolated network.
“The electrification of these administrative posts will take approximately 100 million meticais each, but the government is already mobilizing funds to complete this process by 2030,” he said.
