Venâncio Mondlane denounces "political intolerance" in Tete

Venâncio Mondlane denuncia “intolerância política” em Tete

The independent candidate for the next presidential elections in Mozambique, Venâncio Mondlane, has protested against "political intolerance" in the central province of Tete.

Mondlane cited as examples the burning down by unidentified individuals of a house belonging to a member of the PODEMOS party, which supports his campaign, and the arrest by the local police command of the electoral agent also from PODEMOS in the Macanga district.

"The PODEMOS member's house was destroyed only because they knew he supported our cause. Following the arson, the PODEMOS election agent was arrested. Is this the country we want?" Mondlane asked at a rally on Tuesday (17) in Macanga.

Quoted by the independent television station, STVMondlane claimed that money is also being taken from the health system to fund the campaign. "In the hospitals there are no medicines for the people, there is no decent care. Money is being taken from the hospitals to finance a certain party's campaign."
