A family of Mozambicans is suing South African airline Airlink for alleged mistreatment when they boarded a flight with the company in December 2024.
According to "O País", the father of Mozambican businessman Aquil Rajahussen is ill and in a wheelchair. He was allegedly mistreated on December 7, on a flight from Johannesburg, South Africa, to Nampula, Mozambique. There were a total of nine people in the same family on the trip.
According to the portal, once on the plane, but with the plane on the ground, episodes of mistreatment by the flight attendant led to confusion. "By decision of the flight captain, the 10 passengers from the same family were removed from the plane."
The family chartered a plane to get to Nampula. Once in the Mozambican city, Aquil Rajahussen's father's health deteriorated. An ambulance plane was hired to take Aquil Rajahussen's father to South Africa.
The family appealed to the Nampula Provincial Court and asked it to issue a precautionary order for the seizure of Airlink planes landing in Nampula, in order to guarantee coverage of the compensation the family is claiming in the main action, the amount of which has not been disclosed.
With the injunction in place, Ailink suspended flights to Nampula from the 7th and only resumed flights this Thursday, following an agreement between the parties, but the process of claiming compensation is ongoing.
