Transport workers paralyze activities on Julius Nyerere Avenue

Transportadores paralisam actividades na Av. Julius Nyerere

Traffic has been restricted since the early hours of the day on the extension of Avenida Julius Nyerere, in Maputo city, due to the stoppage of passenger transport activity.

The hauliers are demanding that the road be improved on the stretch between Youth Square, in the Magoanine neighborhood, and Combatants Square, in Xiquelene.

It's the same situation as yesterday, and some people were forced to walk long distances.

During the last administration of Eneas Comiche, Maputo City Council promised to organize the road, but left office without doing so. Today, Razaque Manhique's administration points to the recent demonstrations as the reason for halting the work - which was carried out half-heartedly, under the auspices of the elections.

Private motorists say the hauliers' claim is legitimate, given the circumstances of the road. "I can't pass with these pits. It's bad."

To get around the road, drivers are forced to drive between the alleys of the Laulane and Hulene neighborhoods.

One citizen, interviewed by MiramarIn his speech to the crowd, who had no choice but to get off at their destination, he said that the hauliers should stop work more often.

"It's painful. Patience. We have to do it. The road is bad," he lamented.
