Three people died and seven are missing following the sinking of a boat on Thursday (16) in the city of Beira, Sofala province.
According to a Radio MozambiqueThe boat, belonging to a foreign company, was traveling from the local port to the anchorage with 21 people on board, 14 of Indian nationality and seven Mozambicans.
All the dead and six of the missing are Indian, according to a press release from the Institute of Maritime Transport, ITRANSMAR, which adds that 11 occupants were rescued alive.
In the statement, the maritime transport regulatory authority said that a multi-sector team, including divers, is on the ground searching for the missing.
The causes of the tragedy, which occurred at around 5.30am, involving a fiber boat that was preparing to change crew and assist a ship, are not yet known.
