Civil society approves self-regulation mechanism

Sociedade civil aprova mecanismo de auto-regulação

Mozambican Civil Society Organizations (CSOs) have just approved a Self-Regulation Mechanism, created in a participatory manner to strengthen the legitimacy, autonomy and sustainability of this type of institution.

The validation took place yesterday afternoon in Maputo, during the National Meeting promoted by the Center for Civil Society Studies (CESC), in coordination with the Movement for the Defense of the Right to Freedom of Association, bringing together around 100 representatives of public institutions and cooperation partners.

The instrument is the result of a process that began several years ago, with contributions from more than 200 organizations across the country, and aims to define principles and good practices to improve transparency, accountability and public trust in the sector.

Quoted in a “Notícias” publication, consultant Francisco Albino said that the mechanism “complements the existing rules and strengthens the credibility of CSOs”.

On the other hand, Paula Monjane, from the ALIADAS program, stressed that self-regulation is “a way of protecting and strengthening civic space, promoting transparency, ethics and mutual learning”.

The process includes training actions, sharing experiences and encouraging the creation of internal codes of conduct. (Source: News)
