Capgemini's latest World Wealth Report (WWR) reveals that more and more new millionaires, i.e. individuals with a net worth valued at $1 million - not counting the dwelling where they live - are the result of an investment in digital assets, especially cryptocurrencies.
"With the current stock market rally, high net worth individuals are trying to diversify their asset portfolio. Among those surveyed by this survey, 72% say they have invested in cryptocurrencies and 74% (facing an independent question) confess to betting on other types of digital assets," the report reveals.
On the other hand, the number of high net worth individuals (HNWI) grew by 6.3%, while their wealth increased by 7.6% in 2020 to reach nearly $80 billion.
In this ranking, North America has overtaken the Asia-Pacific region to become the shelter for the number of millionaires in the world and still the region with the highest global sum of fortunes.
