The electoral observation platform, Sala da Paz, reveals the existence of several electoral illicit acts during the vote count, highlighting, for example, the prohibition of journalists and electoral observers from participating in the process.
In her last assessment of the General Elections, the representative of the Peace Room, Teresa Xavier, also pointed to the presence of the Armed Forces during the counting process.
In a newspaper publication "The Country"The source said that of the more than 3,000 polling stations visited by the platform's observers, 210 registered cases of journalists, observers and candidate delegates being prevented from following the vote counting process.
"The causes invoked by the Members of the Polling Station (MMV) to exclude these actors are: alleged superior orders from the presiding officer to exclude these actors in the count, alleged legal restriction for this purpose, agitation caused by the attempt to capture photographs in the counting phase, agitation caused by the request of the candidacy delegates for some presiding officers to recount the votes, after some discrepancy was found," said the representative.
For Teresa Xavier, this practice of excluding journalists and observers contributes to a reduction in transparency in the electoral process and can contribute to questioning the credibility of the results.
