The Mozambique Road Network (REVIMO) has still not resumed collecting tolls in four plazas, after suspensions forced by the post-election demonstrations.
In fact, REVIMO is continuing to create the conditions for the process, and the company's technicians are now setting up the gates.
On the other hand, motorists seem to have no intention of paying the fees at the toll plazas, while crossing the lanes at high speed. However, there are vehicle drivers who are apparently interested in paying the fees, as they show their cards and try to find out from the operators why they are not being charged yet.
According to the cashiers, in the current situation, the fees cannot be collected, but they are leaving a warning message about the resumption of the process.
Last week, REVIMO announced in a statement that it was resuming the collection of tolls at four plazas, namely Costa do Sol and Zintava; the Macaneta toll; and the Mudissa toll, in Bela Vista, Matutuíne district, Maputo province.
This year the company tried to resume operations, but faced a new wave of protests. The institution reported losses of 655 million meticais up to February this year. Nearly 1,400 employment contracts were suspended.
Collection at the Cumbeza and Matola-Gare toll plazas has not yet been resumed due to the level of damage. (Source: TVM)
