CIP Eleições reports that today, 24.01, the Assembly of the Republic, AR, will approve the proposal to amend the Law to allow the amendment to the law CNE to propose to the Council of Ministers another date for the start of voter registration.
According to CIP, the three parties have reached a consensus to postpone the discussion and approval of the revision of other aspects of electoral legislation that do not affect the electoral calendar until the February session.
"When Frelimo submitted the proposal for a one-off revision of the electoral legislation, the Renamo and MDM parties also submitted their proposals for revising the legislation. Frelimo didn't accept the idea and proposed that this major revision debate be held during the ordinary session in February. The opposition demanded that only the change to the census date be approved tomorrow and that other aspects of the law be postponed until the February session," reads the CIP document.
"Since Frelimo has understood that, due to the shortage of time, there is no way to accommodate our proposals, we also think that the other articles proposed by Frelimo, which do not have to do with the census, should also be moved to February," writes CIP Eleições quoting an opposition parliamentary source.
Also according to CIP Eleições, voter registration will be postponed from February 1 to take place from March 15 and end on April 28.
