Five hundred illegal immigrants repatriated

Quinhentos imigrantes ilegais foram repatriados

Around 500 illegal immigrants have been repatriated to their countries of origin since January, in various border districts of Tete province.

They are mainly Ethiopian, Bangladeshi, Congolese, Somali, Zambian, Zimbabwean and Malawian nationals, who enter the country with the intention of reaching the Republic of South Africa.

Compared to the same period last year, the immigration authorities in Tete province describe the phenomenon as worrying, given the number registered in less than five months.

The spokesman for the Tete Provincial Directorate of Migration said that the districts of Angónia, Macanga, Tsangano, Moatize, Changara and the provincial capital had high levels of this type of crime (RM)
