Around 500 permanent and seasonal workers at the Maning Nice transport company have been left without a source of income due to the shutdown.

The company, based in Nampula, recently announced that it was suspending its activities due to the advanced state of degradation of the EN1 road, which connects the north and south of the country.

The president of the Nampula Road Transport Association (ASTRA), Luis Vasconcelos, said that the situation on the EN1 has become untenable for the transport companies.

The company owes the banks around six million meticais, as well as workers' salaries. The last salary was paid in November 2022.
