Renamo's new political delegate in Quelimane, Zambezia province, Leonardo Botão, yesterday issued an ultimatum that shook the party's local structures. "No more jokes, no more noise," he said during his official presentation to the district's seven political posts.
According to a Txopela newspaperThe message, direct and blunt, was interpreted as a message to the internal sectors that have been sowing instability and fueling divisions, especially around the national leadership of Ossufo Momade. Without naming names, the new district delegate made it clear that he will not allow parallel agendas or indiscipline.
"What we're going to do now is activate and reactivate the summits. The party was asleep, but that's over," he said.
The ceremony took place at Renamo's district headquarters and was attended by the heads of the political posts of Namuinho, Brandão, Cololo, Manhaua, Icídua, Miremene and Namacata, which Botão made a point of highlighting as a clear sign of unity. "All seven political posts have joined me. We're going to work with everyone, without excluding anyone. Mothers, fathers, young and old - everyone counts towards revitalizing the summits," he said.
Since taking office, Botão has been in direct contact with the grassroots, systematically visiting the neighborhoods that make up the so-called "radius 10", in a declared attempt to reconnect the district leadership with the grassroots structures. "We visited all the political bases. We went where there were doubts and misgivings, and talked to the people. Now we're going to work seriously," he stressed.
The new face of Renamo in Quelimane promises inclusive leadership, but with a firm hand, at a time when the party is facing internal challenges and seeking to reposition itself on the local and national political scene. Botão stressed that his priority is to reorganize the party, rebuild internal trust and regain respect among the electorate. "Anyone who wants to play games should stay out of it. We're going to work here," he warned.
The announcement of the new delegate comes at a sensitive time for Renamo, which has been rocked by internal tensions, public criticism of the leadership and episodes of demobilization at the grassroots. Botão's arrival thus marks an attempt to rescue party authority in Quelimane, with a focus on discipline, cohesion and reorganization.
