A 66-year-old man is accused of leading a five-man gang that robbed and beat a healer and his wife in Ribáuè district in Nampula. He and another subordinate are already in the hands of the National Criminal Investigation Service (SERNIC).
In addition to the assault on the healer and his wife, which left the victims with serious injuries, the criminals seized 200,000 meticais. The healer is the main supplier of agricultural products.
SERNIC says that Grandpa leads a five-man gang, with the other three members still to be found.
The authority says that it decided to expose the case, firstly because it concerns an elderly person, which is ?quite worrying?, and secondly because it beat the healer.
He could have been at home counseling his children, but he chose to lead a gang of robbers. That is worrisome in the sphere of his age. So it is more of a wake-up call and appeal to society," said Elina Tsinine, SERNIC spokeswoman in Nampula.
The grandfather, who claims to be a merchant in Waresta market, on the outskirts of Nampula city, and his subordinate confess to the crimes. However, they claim that they were invited by a third person.
