Teachers fear "real" prophecies of death and 'improvise' lessons away from the classroom

Professores temem profecias “reais” de morte e ‘improvisam’ aulas longe das salas

Teachers at the Eduardo Mondlane Secondary School in Mahubo, Boane district, Maputo province, are fearful of alleged death prophecies that, if fulfilled, could affect the group of professionals.

Far from being fables, teachers avoid the classroom at all costs and use worksheets to ensure the teaching and learning process.

Not least because the teachers at that school say that there has been at least one case of a colleague dying after a prophecy. Now, they don't want to bet on doubt...

As reported by Miramar, a phenomenon of spiritual manifestation affected some students recently. It turns out that, during the trance, the students pronounced the names of some teachers who would be the target of death predictions in the coming days.

One teacher interviewed said that the prophecy would affect math teachers, not least because one of the teachers had been warned by a pupil. The teacher recalled that the teacher who died recently, on a Saturday, had also been warned of his death days before, on a Wednesday, by a student and had been recommended to pray.

"He died without being sick or anything. We're scared, really," he said, noting that the teachers even go to school, "but they're not motivated to teach".

"We're there to explain and give the children worksheets, but teaching, that's not happening," lamented the teacher, Emília Isabel Contente.
