Xpeng subsidiary Aridge has already started pilot production of flying cars at the world's first factory for this type of vehicle in Guangzhou, paving the way for the commercialization of next-generation transportation.
The 120,000 square meter facility produced the first detachable eVTOL aircraft for the modular Land Aircraft Carrier.
The facility is designed to have an annual production capacity of 10,000 detachable aircraft modules, with an initial capacity of 5,000 units, the company said in a statement quoted by the local press.
It has the largest production capacity of any factory of its type and will be able to assemble an aircraft every 30 minutes when fully operational.
Pilot operations involve checking processes, testing equipment and producing prototypes for airworthiness certification, before moving on to series production.
XPENG AEROHT has secured orders for almost 5,000 flying cars since the product's launch, and mass production and delivery are scheduled for 2026, according to the company.
The flying car consists of a six-wheeled ground vehicle, called the “mothership”, and a detachable electric vertical take-off and landing (eVTOL) aircraft.
