President of the Republic calls for intransigence in defense of sovereignty

The defense and security forces must be uncompromising in the defense of sovereignty and territorial integrity, respect the laws and the Mozambican people whom they are sworn to serve.

These words were spoken this morning in Maputo by the President of the Republic and Commander-in-Chief of the Defense and Security Forces (FDS), Filipe Nyusi, moments after swearing in the new leaders.

They are Tiago Nampele, appointed commander of the Army Branch; Fernando Tsucana, deputy police commander, and Ezequiel Muianga, commander of Mozambique's Civic Service.

On the occasion, the President of the Republic also urged the inductees not to focus only on combating terrorism, although it is a priority of the moment. "Combating and eradicating this evil are paramount, without prejudice to studies aimed at addressing other threats to sovereignty and territorial integrity."

Meanwhile, the Head of State also promoted Colonels, Estevão Francisco, Ricardo Macuvele, Omar Saranga, Francisco Maurício, Leonardo Dimas, to the rank of Brigadier and Sea Captain, Bernardo Nchokomala to the rank of Commodore.

These promotions, according to the Commander-in-Chief of the FDS, are part of the rejuvenation of the defense sector in order to provide new dynamics and improvement of the service provided to the Mozambican people.
