President announces financing of 75 million meticais for producers affected by Freddy

Presidente da República anuncia financiamento de 75 milhões de meticais para produtores afectados pelo Freddy

The President of the Republic, Filipe Nyusi, announced today, the availability of a 75 million meticals line of financing to support producers affected by Cyclone Freddy in the country.

The amount, to be disbursed by the National Investment Bank, BNI, will serve to leverage the production chain in the provinces of Zambézia, Tete, Manica, Sofala, Nampula and Niassa, ravaged by bad weather.

Filipe Nyusi was speaking this Wednesday, in Manje, headquarters of Chiúta district, Tete province, at the central launching ceremony of the Agricultural Commercialization Campaign 2023, an event where all provinces of the country were represented.

The President of the Republic assured that the financing will be interest free, with a grace period of six months and a maturity period of two years, with a minimum value of 500 thousand meticais and a maximum value of three million meticais.

Regarding the 2023 agricultural marketing campaign, launched this Wednesday, on a national scale, President Filipe Nyusi said that the country expects to commercialize more than 17 million tons of various agricultural products.

The government will support with agricultural mechanization and inputs, and technological capacity building with technical assistance from extension workers.

Also this Wednesday, the Head of State will address the Fifth National Marketing Forum, which will look at proposed solutions to leverage the agricultural marketing chain in the country.
