President announces financing of 75 million meticais for producers affected by Freddy

Presidente da República anuncia financiamento de 75 milhões de meticais para produtores afectados pelo Freddy

The President of the Republic, Filipe Nyusi, today announced the availability of a 75 million meticais funding line to support producers affected by Cyclone Freddy in the country.

The amount, to be disbursed by the National Investment Bank, BNI, will be used to boost the production chain in the provinces of Zambézia, Tete, Manica, Sofala, Nampula and Niassa, which have been hit by bad weather.

Filipe Nyusi was speaking this Wednesday in Manje, the seat of the Chiúta district in Tete province, at the central ceremony to launch the 2023 Agricultural Marketing Campaign, an event where all the country's provinces were represented.

The President of the Republic assured that the financing will be interest-free, with a grace period of six months and a maturity of two years, with a minimum value of 500,000 meticais and a maximum of three million meticais.

Regarding the 2023 agricultural marketing campaign, launched this Wednesday on a national scale, President Filipe Nyusi said that the country expects to market more than 17 million tons of various agricultural products.

The government will provide support with agricultural mechanization and inputs and technological training with technical assistance from extension workers.

Also this Wednesday, the Head of State will address the Fifth National Marketing Forum, which will focus on proposed solutions to boost the agricultural marketing chain in the country.
