The President of the Republic, Daniel Chapo, has learned "with deep sorrow and dismay" of the death of António Oliveira, commonly known as Xitonhana, from illness.
For several years, from Chibuto, the headquarters of his company Oliveira, Transportes e Turismo, Xitonhana "devoted all his energies" to boosting the passenger and light cargo transport sector, especially in the south of the country.
Even in difficult times, such as during the 16-year war, it maintained its activity based on principles of security, predictability and responsibility.
"This is a person who is a milestone in the history of transport in the country and who is part of the popular imagination of southern Mozambique. He has carried out actions in the public interest that are worthy of note, such as rehabilitating tertiary roads to allow better mobility for his buses. Xitonhana is undoubtedly an example of dedication that the younger generation should follow," the Head of State stressed.
On behalf of the Mozambican people, the government and himself, the President of the Republic sends his heartfelt condolences to the bereaved family, in particular, and to all those whom the deceased touched by his example while he was active in the transport sector, calling for Xitonhana not only to be mourned, but also celebrated, for the contribution he made to Mozambique's development.
