The President of the Republic urged the Tax Authority to be sensible about paying its debts to suppliers, in order to restore confidence in the state.
The Head of State called for debts to be paid off quickly, preventing new debts from arising. He also called for resources to be made available quickly and efficiently, especially in the districts.
Chapo also spoke about the payment of pensions to pensioners, calling for the creation of a robust, swift and financially sustainable welfare system.
"A pension is not a favor, it's a right that must be respected, guaranteed with dignity," said the Head of State, who was speaking this morning as part of a visit to the offices of the Tax Authority and the Ministry of Finance.
He said that tax collection is the basis of the country's functioning, and called for the resilience of the Tax Authority's employees.
"The problem is not in collecting, but in not collecting enough to fulfill the social and economic role of the state," he said.
He also said that "for a supplier to do a job, they need to invest in order to make a profit, and that depends on payments from the AT and the Ministry of Finance".
