The population of the Luís Cabral neighborhood tried today to prevent burials from taking place in the mass grave at the Lhanguene cemetery in Maputo city.
The dumping of bodies used to take place in the dead of night, twice a week. But nowadays it takes place in broad daylight, and the population says they are fed up with this municipal attitude.
Later this morning, a truck took bodies to the Lhanguene mass grave. Some were buried, but others may have had to be kept in the truck after the public outcry.
A source from the Luís Cabral neighborhood, interviewed by MiramarHe said that burials took place there on an almost daily basis. He said that they spent the festive season smelling the nauseating smell of decaying bodies.
Another said that the cars always arrive in the morning, "when we're still awake, and even children can see".
