Between November 20 and 30 this year, the Mozambican capital will become a projection notebook for humanity.
The seventh edition of the International Poetry and Performing Arts Festival - Poetas D'Alma is not just an event, but a collective exercise in reinvention under the slogan “The Possibility of a New World”.
The festival positions itself as an act of resistance: art as the primordial soil where hope takes root and words as an antidote to the noise of the world.
This edition, born out of the Sixth held in February this year under the motto “Resilience and Healing”, consolidates the event as a cultural beacon on the continent, bringing together creators from a dozen nations.
The curator, Féling Capela, reflects on the moment: “We live in an era of multiple crises, we die and are reborn like phoenixes in the great COVID-19 pandemic, and when we try to get back on our feet, wars fragment nations and conflicts divide communities.
While some seek to deepen the lines of cultural fracture, we multidisciplinary artists, being the antennae of society, are called to build ‘bridges made of words and rhythms’.
To receive voices from Brazil, Eswatini, Namibia, Portugal and other corners of the universe is to feed a vital dialog that opposes the logic of shock. This is the true cartography of Poetas D'Alma: a map of connections, not separations.”
The itinerant and hybrid program unfolds like a polyphonic poem, responding directly to the urgency of the present.
The festival's ceramics, creative writing, creative painting, dance, book, record, craft and gastronomy workshops celebrate local abundance and traditional knowledge by proposing alternative symbolic economies.
The construction of new worlds here is a manual and communal act, a “learning by doing” that resists the disintegration of the social fabric.
Átila, Production Director, unveils the architecture of the event: “Poetas D'Alma is a platform that proposes a stage, literal and figurative, on which the various art forms can create, converse and form this new world with ever-expanding roots.
The language of art allows for a collaborative dialog of synergies, where the public is the greatest artist.”.
True to its cosmopolitan and community character, the festival will take the artistic dialog beyond the conventional stages, with visits to the communities. This initiative ensures that the creative sap flows directly from the city and its people.
The VII Poetas D'Alma Festival is therefore more than a declaration of intent. It is tangible proof that the Mozambican and international artistic community is coming together to sow the seeds of a brighter tomorrow with words, sounds and movements. It is an act of faith in a future that is being drawn collectively, from Maputo, for the world.
