Literally today, several passengers flocked to Maputo's "de Mavalane" International Airport at dawn to wait for flights that had been scheduled and/or postponed until the last hours of the afternoon.
People quoted STV said that they went there before the rooster crowed in the hope of not missing their flights. In fact, this was a strategy to avoid the blockades on the streets and avenues that force motorized vehicles to suspend their marches between 8am and 3.30pm, as part of the post-election demonstrations called by Venâncio Mondlane.
Even so, there were those who didn't escape the "illegal tolls" and paid to pass through. According to one passenger, she arrived at the airport at 3 a.m., but first she had to pay 500 meticais to pass through an "illegal toll", set up at dawn, in the 2M area, in the Jardim neighborhood.
However, the sources said that the "hospitality" was improvised in the airport corridors, as it was the only way to find shelter. "We had to sleep [on the floor] anyway. There was no way. What can you do?" lamented the passenger. And in this scenario, there were those who saw their scheduled flight postponed to another time.
