The Optimist Party for the Development of Mozambique (PODEMOS) is holding an ordinary session of its National Council today and tomorrow in the municipality of Matola, Maputo province, to elect its new secretary-general.

According to a NewsFour members are running for office, according to Josualdo Sitoe, the party's communications advisor. They are Stélio Américo António, Alberto Ferreira, Germano Lino and Caetano Mendonça Mussacaze.

The winning candidate will replace Sebastião Mussanhane, who has taken on the role of deputy and head of the PODEMOS parliamentary caucus in the Assembly of the Republic.

The party entered Parliament for the first time. With 43 deputies from the last elections on October 9, 2024, it became the second largest political force.
