The government will not finalize the payment of overtime to health and education professionals until 2026, Finance Minister Carla Louveira told parliament yesterday.
The minister was answering questions from members of Parliament.
In total, the government owes health and education professionals around 8,122.7 million meticais in overtime.
In the health sector, a new liability between October 2024 and June 2025, worth 301.8 million meticais, is being validated by the General Inspectorate of Finance and should only be paid in 2026, the minister said.
He also pointed out that the overtime for 2024 and 2025, which is expected to reach 6,634.4 million meticais, is currently in the process of technical validation and will only be paid once it has been concluded.
