The president of Renamo, Ossufo Momade, who is the front-runner in the presidential elections on October 9, promises that, if elected, he will establish three capital cities in the country, with different powers.
In his view, the country's capital, Maputo, which holds all the powers, will serve only as the political capital; the city of Beira, in Sofala province, will be the parliamentary capital; and the northern capital, the city of Nampula, in the province of the same name, will become the country's economic center.
"We want development. And we wanted all these big cities to be able to develop, because everything is in the city of Maputo," he said.
He was speaking on Friday to potential voters on Ilha de Moçambique and at the administrative post of Matibane, Mossuril district, in Nampula province.
Ossufo Momade says that the salvation of Mozambique is Renamo and its presidential candidate. But he also took the opportunity to criticize the current Frelimo regime.
He redeemed what has been described as the Frelimo candidate's "presidential qualifications" with the fact that he had been a provincial governor.
"What experience does he have of corruption, of letting children sit on the floor at school, of the lack of medicines in hospitals, of poor care? Is that the experience he has?" he asked.
