OPEC+ threatens further increase in oil production as of July

OPEP+ ameaça com novo aumento da produção de petróleo a partir de Julho

The member countries of the Organization of the Petroleum Exporting Countries and their allies (OPEC+) are already discussing whether they will agree to a third consecutive increase in their production from July, thus fueling fears that any potential increase in global supply will exceed the growth in demand.

The decision could be taken at the OPEC+ meeting scheduled for June 1, according to Bloomberg, quoted by Negócios newspaper this Thursday (22).

On the table - among several options under discussion - is an accelerated increase in production of 411,000 barrels per day from July - triple the amount initially planned - although no final agreement has yet been reached, said the report by Bloomberg, which quotes OPEC+ officials on condition of anonymity.

For its part, Reuters had already reported that OPEC+ is expected to accelerate its oil production increases from now on and could even reach 2.2 million barrels per day by November. With the announcement of an increase of 411,000 barrels per day - the equivalent of 1% of current production - in May and June, the organization contributed to the fall in oil prices.
