IOM seeks funds for humanitarian assistance to displaced people in Mozambique

OIM procura fundos para assistência humanitária a deslocados em Moçambique

The International Organization for Migration (IOM) is mobilizing funds to support humanitarian assistance to displaced people in Mozambique, according to Deputy Director-General Ugochi Daniels.

The target population is those affected by terrorist actions in Cabo Delgado province, and bad weather such as cyclones and storms.

"Internal displacement is something that has been happening and could increase due to conflicts and climate change," he warned when speaking to the press on Friday, on the sidelines of a visit to affected communities in Sofala province.

Recently, the IOM supported the victims of cyclones Dikeledi, Chido and others in the provinces of Nampula and Cabo Delgado.

"The United Nations is supporting Mozambique through two mechanisms, the first has to do with humanitarian support, the most urgent part after an emergency, where we support with housing, health issues, but this support is not a lasting solution. So there is a second strand in which we want to offer a lasting and sustainable solution, that's where we are concerned with resilient infrastructure," she said, quoted by AIM.
