The President of the Republic, Filipe Nyusi, is taking part in the International Conference on Sustainable and Integrated Management of the Miombo Forest in Washington DC, USA, from tomorrow (16) until Friday.

This is an event organized by the Mozambican government, in partnership with the International Foundation for Conservation of Biodiversity (ICCF), the Society for Conservation of Biodiversity (WCS) and Rainforest Trust, to promote investment opportunities within the framework of the implementation of the Maputo Declaration on Miombo.

"The aim is to achieve the goals of climate change, biodiversity conservation and integrated sustainable development," reads a statement from the Presidency of the Republic.

The Miombo Forest is important for the maintenance of the Greater Zambezi Basin, a region rich in biodiversity in its protected areas with enormous potential for the development of a nature-based economy.

The event will be attended by representatives of the heads of state of the countries that signed the Maputo Declaration, members of the US Congress and African parliaments, international financial institutions, private sector leaders, partners from international conservation agencies, philanthropists, environmental experts and community leaders from the provinces of Niassa, Zambézia and Inhambane.
