New LAM manager begins revitalization process today

Novo gestor da LAM inicia hoje o processo de revitalização

Fly Modern Ark, the company contracted to revitalize the national flag carrier, Mozambique Airlines (LAM), begins its activities today. The set of actions to get LAM out of its current situation of insolvency and a debt of 300 million dollars will last six months.

The international team that will be coordinating with LAM was presented on Thursday by the Minister of Transport and Communications, Mateus Magala.

The work includes the allocation of aircraft and other equipment, the numbers of which are still unknown, and this requires an assessment of the needs and capacity of the LAM.

LAM's recovery strategy also involves reducing the price of airline tickets, according to Magala, quoted by Notícias.

"Generally, fare reductions are the result of economies of scale and efficiency. This has to be combined with efficient management and a favorable regulatory environment for civil aviation. This is what we want to achieve soon so that passengers can benefit from greater access to LAMs," he explained.

The decision to submit LAM to new management comes from an evaluation carried out last year with the World Bank, Magala said. The Minister explained that LAM's situation does not allow it to be privatized due to its debt of 300 million dollars, among other reasons.
