Portuguese ship docks today in Mozambican waters for patrol activities

Navio português atraca hoje nas águas moçambicanas para actividades de patrulha

The Portuguese ocean patrol vessel NRP Setúbal will dock today at the port of Maputo, where it will stay until Thursday as part of the Mar Aberto initiative..

According to the Portuguese navy, the program in Mozambique includes a period of training and instruction at sea with military personnel from the Mozambican navy, as part of defence cooperation that has brought the two countries together for 30 years.

"The activities will also include outreach activities at the Portuguese School in Mozambique, with a lecture and a visit by a group of students to the ship," says the Portuguese navy, adding that the NRP Setúbal and the teams on board will then take part in the Portugal Day celebrations in Cape Town, South Africa, which will be presided over by the President of the Portuguese Republic, Marcelo Rebelo de Sousa.

It should be noted that the Portuguese ocean patrol ship left the Lisbon Naval Base on April 15, together with the NRP Centauro, for another mission of the Open Sea initiative in 14 countries and 20 ports over four months to carry out maritime security missions and support foreign policy.
