Rail traffic linking the port of Nacala, in Nampula province, to Niassa, Tete and the interland countries has been interrupted for more than 48 hours.
This was due to the line being blocked after an accident last Saturday (30), in which a coal train collided with a truck near the town of Ribáuè, about 130 kilometers from the provincial capital, Nampula City, which caused it to derail.
There were no fatalities, but it was reported that the truck's co-driver suffered minor injuries.
In a statement quoted by AIM, Nacala Logistics, which operates the railroad in Nampula, said that technical operational teams had already been mobilized to carry out the necessary replacement work.
"Nacala Logistics immediately mobilized its technical and operational teams, who are on site carrying out the work to replace the railway line, which has been temporarily interrupted. There are no reports of fatalities, but the truck driver's assistant suffered minor injuries," the statement said.
The note from Nacala Logistics states that the train involved in the accident was coming from the Moatize coal mine in Tete and was destined for the Nacala-à-Velha multi-purpose port terminal and ended up derailing due to the force of the impact.
According to the press release, the accident occurred after a collision with a lorry that was crossing a level crossing at the same time as the train.
"Despite the immediate use of the horn and the application of the brakes by the driver, the impact could not be avoided," the document explains.
Nacala Logisticcs calls on road users and the community in general to respect traffic regulations and follow safety guidelines to avoid accidents.
It should be noted that Nacala Logistics carries out regular awareness campaigns to prevent accidents of all kinds.
