Chinese mining company Haiyu Mozambique Mining, which exploits heavy sands in the Angoche district of Nampula province, has paid more than 300 million meticais in taxes to the Mozambican state over the last five years.
According to figures provided by the mining company's representative, Augusto Basílio, during the presentation of the business report, in the same period the company produced a total of 747,619 tons of heavy sands.
Quoted in a portal publication IkweliThe source, without giving details, revealed that the volume of production in 2024 was 174,278 tons, compared to 145,500 in 2023, with a contribution to the state coffers of around 113.4 million meticais in 2024.
During the presentation of the report, Basílio shared that the extraction is done in the open, since rock deposits have been identified at relatively shallow depths in relation to the surface. "This method of extracting minerals does not require the drilling of tunnels, which characterizes underground mining."
