The Quelimane City Council (CMCQ) has begun a campaign to notify owners of vehicles parked for long periods of time and irregularly on the city's main thoroughfares, in accordance with Article 15 of the Municipal Code of Postures..
Through notices posted directly on the vehicles by municipal police officers, the municipality is giving the owners seven (7) days from the date of notification to voluntarily remove their vehicles.
In a statement quoted by Txopela newspaperThe CMCQ warns that, in the event of non-compliance, the vehicles will be forcibly removed by the municipal authorities and subsequently seized. To recover the vehicles, the owners will have to pay a fine of 7500 meticais, as stipulated in the Municipal Code of Postures, as well as paying the costs of removing and storing the vehicle, as defined in the current Table of Municipal Fees.
According to the municipality, the measure aims to restore urban order, ensure traffic flow and preserve the proper use of public spaces, which are often obstructed by abandoned or improperly parked vehicles.
The CMCQ calls on citizens to collaborate and urges property owners to cooperate with the Municipal Police in order to avoid additional penalties and contribute to a more organized and functional city.
