The Maputo City Council is moving ahead with the reinstallation of bases for the replacement of traffic lights at the intersection of Avenida de Angola and Avenida Joaquim Chissano, where the equipment was vandalized during the post-election demonstrations.
After the vandalization, the municipality estimated the cost of replacing the traffic lights at around 8 million meticais, covering 18 priority intersections.
According to a TV MiramarThe devices are being installed at various points in the city. In this regard, work has already been completed at the intersections of Jardim, Avenida de Angola and Avenida Joaquim Chissano.
"Work is currently underway at the Hulene junction, considered one of the most critical traffic points in the city. Despite the temporary absence of operational traffic lights, the Traffic Police have ensured the smooth and safe movement of people and goods, pending the installation of the electronic controllers that will allow the equipment to function fully," said the deputy director of mobility and traffic at Maputo City Council.
The source explained that the work began in June and is taking place in phases, highlighting improvements in traffic management where the traffic lights have already been replaced.
