A Mozambican delegation led by the Secretary of State for Land and Environment, Gustavo Dgedge, is taking part from today in the Ethiopian capital, Addis Ababa, in the 2nd African Climate Summit, where it will reaffirm its commitment to sustainable development and the promotion of a just energy transition..

The Mozambican delegation, which includes representatives from the Ministry of Agriculture, Environment and Fisheries (MAAP), the Ministry of Mineral Resources and Energy (MIREME) and the National Energy Fund (FUNAE), has as one of its main focuses the mobilization of climate finance, strengthening the regulatory framework and preparing the country to face the challenges of climate change.

"We believe that with strong partnerships between African countries, we can move forward with a unified voice, influencing global decisions and ensuring that our region is heard in climate negotiations," said Gustavo Dgedge.

On the other hand, MIREME sees the Summit as a strategic opportunity to accelerate the implementation of the National Energy Transition Strategy.

"We want to present the government's integrated vision, which promotes a fair energy transition, prioritizing renewable and thermal sources, with an emphasis on natural gas as the transition fuel," said Marcelina Mataveia, national energy director.

"We hope to align public and private partners to mobilize concessionary financing and attract private investment in projects that boost electrification, job creation and green industrialization, fully in line with the Strategy," he said.

Mozambique's participation is part of the "Together for Climate" program, financed by the Belgian government and implemented in partnership with Enabel.

With a budget of 27 million euros, the program aims to support national priorities in climate resilience and sustainable development.
