Mozambique ranks third in the world in terms of the number of people infected with HIV, and second in terms of the number of new infections.
The data was presented today by the PHIVarliamentary Office for the Prevention and Combat of HIV/AIDS, which recommended the creation of mechanisms to increase domestic funding for the response to HIV, according to a report in the newspaper "O País".
According to the data presented today, Mozambique has a prevalence of 12.5% in adults over the age of 15, which is higher in women (15%) than in men (9.5%) in the same age group.
The data also shows that, although the country has made progress in recent years, there are still challenges to controlling the HIV epidemic, "which shows the need for joint, concerted efforts and the involvement of all players to improve the performance of the national response".
