Mozambique exported more than seven billion dollars to African countries

Moçambique exportou mais de sete mil milhões de dólares para países africanos

The trade balance between Mozambique and other African countries reached 7.1 billion US dollars over the last five years, Prime Minister Benvinda Levi revealed yesterday in the city of Beira, Sofala province.

Speaking at the official launch of Mozambique's commercial transactions under the African Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA), he said that the figure represents an increase of 66% in exports.

"This market, in addition to accelerating the establishment of an integrated African public-private dialogue model, also has the potential to contribute to increasing the current two percent level of our trade with the rest of the African continent," he said.

The Prime Minister challenges the business sector to invest in modernizing the value chains of the various economic sectors, the logistics ecosystem and the corridors.

"We urge all national and foreign entrepreneurs to exploit the potential of our logistics corridors in the center, north and south of the country, as they are international logistics hubs that connect the national, regional, continental and global markets," he said.

The country joined the AfCFTA agreement in 2018 and submitted its tariff offer last year (2024), which was approved last February by the Heads of State and Government of the African Union, creating the conditions for Mozambique to start trading with around 47 African countries that are part of the initiative.
