Mozambique advocates greater engagement between the African Union and the European Union in conflict prevention and the fight against terrorism and violent extremism.
According to a AIMThis position was expressed this Wednesday (21) in Brussels by the Secretary of State for Foreign Affairs and the Mozambican Community Abroad, Maria de Fátima Manso, during the 3rd Ministerial Meeting between the European Union and the African Union.
"At a historic moment when the EU-AU partnership is celebrating 25 years, we must invest in efforts for an effective approach to conflict prevention and the fight against terrorism and violent extremism, in the light of the African Union's African Peace and Security Architecture, which provides a solid basis in the process of creating foundations for the guarantee of sustainable peace in Africa," said Manso.
In her speech during the discussion on the topic of peace, security and governance, the Mozambican leader stressed that "addressing this phenomenon and other phenomena that represent threats to peace and security in depth is of the utmost importance, in order to give rise to effective stability and the materialization of development programmes towards the prosperity of our countries and the well-being of the peoples of our continent."
Maria de Fátima Manso took the opportunity to thank the member countries of the Southern African Development Community (SADC), Rwanda and the European Union for their support in the fight against terrorism and violent extremism.
The Euro-African ministerial meeting held in the Belgian capital was attended by 68 African and European foreign ministers and representatives of the African Union and the European Union, around four themes, namely peace, security and governance; multilateralism; prosperity; and people, migration and mobility.
