The Ministry of Mineral Resources and Energy (MIREME) will soon launch a competition for 40 scholarships to study undergraduate hydrocarbons in Malaysia and Germany.
For Malaysia, 30 scholarships will be awarded, and for Germany, 10. A source from MIREME said that for these training opportunities, Mozambican students with the 12th grade concluded and aged between 18 and 21 are eligible.
According to a note from MIREME, the scholarships will be preferentially distributed to students from the implementation zones of hydrocarbon projects, namely the districts of Palma, province of Cabo Delgado; Moma, province of Nampula; Moatize, province of Tete; and Inhassoro and Govuro, Inhambane, which will compete for 20 scholarships.
Fifteen scholarships will be awarded to students from other parts of the country and five to MIREME employees.
"The sending of Mozambican students to specialize in the hydrocarbon area falls under MIREME's Training Strategy, which resulted in the signing of memorandums of understanding with three institutions," reads the document.
As part of the agreements, the Petronas Technical University of Malaysia has committed to receive 30 Mozambican students annually, the National Petroleum Institute of Angola (15), and the Technical University of Freiberg, Germany (10).
The program has enabled the training of 217 young Mozambicans between 2009 and 2021, at undergraduate and mid-level professional levels. The initiative also includes scholarships for training in Mozambican institutions, namely Instituto Superior Politécnico de Tete (ISPT), 21 students, Universidade de Lúrio (UNILÚRIO), ten, and Universidade Eduardo Mondlane (UEM), five.
